GTN Services

Health education and risk-reduction counseling provided to one individual and group settings. Assist clients in making plans for individual behavior change and ongoing appraisals of their own behavior. These interventions also facilitate linkages to services in both clinic and community settings (e.g., substance abuse treatment settings) in support of behaviors and practices that prevent transmission of HIV. Counselors help clients make plans to obtain these services.

client-centered confidential or anonymous testing, blood tests, oral tests, or rapid tests.

Referrals (detox, pre-post test counseling)

The RAP Gaston Neal Project staff refers to other services in several ways.

(1) In instances when the outreach staff encounter individuals from the target population(s) who seek primary medical care, HIV counseling and testing, mental health and substance abuse services, and other social services the person is given information (telephone numbers) about how to access the services being sought
(2) In situations when the Project staff is able to meet regularly at a set location, each staff person has a resources manual, and is able to provide detailed information about how to access services
(3) The prevention staff is able to both provide referrals to other services and be available to assist the client in linking with the services being sought.
